  • Displacement

    Hi,

I've been trying to add displacement map for a long time now. I just don't understand how its applied. I've used the search in this forum and found couple of node setup images. Just can't get it work. It seems so complicated. Usually I find a way to do things, not in this case I guess.

None of those node setups shows where I put my displacement map texture.

    Thanks in advance!

You can check the manual: http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...r/Displacement

For displacement, you need to add a node to the object.

Okay, I think im following. I know now where i need to put those nodes. I just can''t add anything to the object node. All the nodes are gray when I try to add them.

I kind of got it working. The displacement works but it looks noisy. Why that might be? My displacement map is very simple with just black gray and white lines.

Noisy in what way? Can you post an image?

            Best regards,

I'm trying to use the displacement but with no luck.

                I've checked the link http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...orDisplacement

I've used the nodes suggested but it seems it's not working (for me).

                Here the simple file
                test_vray_displacement.zip

                Where am I wrong?

You need object node of your plane object, your .blend file does not have.

                    Thank you JuhaW.

                    now it's working.

I think that this should be added to the manual...

                      Hi,

Sorry for digging this thread, but I don't see any sense to make another with the same question. I mean almost the same.
I can't add OBJECT NODE TREE. Clicking on it, and nothing happen. Newest exporter with custom nightly from 15.09.
Can someone explain, help, it needs something more, or this is a bug? Or better is to use official build? I mean, not nightly ones.

Hi, I tried to use the displacement node as you see but it doesn't work, can you explain why?
Is it right put the node in Vray object node tree?
                          Thank you

Try with "Noise (3ds Max)" node. Here also not work with Noise node.
