  • V-ray Proxy ABC workflow - Automatically proxies

    hey,
Frist i would like to say VRmesh is awesome and iv got nothing against it.

Currently I'm jumping in to Pipe line that heavily based around ABC files And exchanging Asstes between. Some of this assets are animated, Currently Vrmesh animation are really large and take a long time to generate and there don't like adopting a new File format.

The current workflow with proxy and vrmesh has a option to "Automatically create proxies " will import the mesh and Relink all the textures to the Vrmesh.

is there a way to do the same for ABC file and instead? is the a alternative ABC work flow with Vray proxy that been developed that some one can point me to?

    thanks..

The material auto-connection works only if you create a proxy inside Maya and enable the option to replace the geo with the proxy.
If you import a proxy from an external to Maya source, the connections won't be redone.

Most people that need this develop internal tools to do what they need.
We're investigating ways to make working with large assets better/easier/faster/you-name-it, but there is nothing implemented yet.

      hey dude,
thanks you for the reply, is the VRayMeshMtl is it a absolute mtl assignment or procedural?

example MaterialAssign in katan and ApplyMaterial in nuke.

im wondering if i can recycle some of the python scripts that used for Reassigning shadier that used for Vrmesh?

      thanks

In the latest versions it is using either material indices or material names.
There are no regex-like features to match particular locations like in Katana.

We're researching an alembic like workflow and we'll probably try to implement something that makes it easier in the future.
