You know, honestly, I don't know what the difference is. I use that setup I sent with the Environment mapping node because it works for me. I honestly can't remember if there was something with building it the other way or not.
I'm gonna call it a night, but if you happen to try both and figure it out, I would love to know.

Meant to give you that and somehow didn't. You'll wanna make sure you keep that as a handy bookmark.
And to answer about the difference, I wanna say the one I use (from the rotate HDRI image) works with the GPU but maybe the other didn't(?). All I use is GPU, so I do some things a little different and I am almost (pretty) sure it was something about that.Logan
