ok interesting thread, I think many here would benefit from learning more about exterior setups,
Why dont we start with a model of a building that we can download and try our techniques, each person should post only WIP's that theya re happy with and then the final image. The final scene should be made available to those who participated/interested in this so that we can get in a disect the scene. Even if there's PS done on it, the psd should be available, I'm more than willing to try and contribute, also I think this would work cos the more the participation the the better the render.
what say ye????
Tom
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.
Can't agree more. What scene should we use? If someone has some nice interior/ext. scene willing to share, it would be nice. I realy don't have time to model it from the scratch, but i'm willing to find time to participate in rendering.
Hope that everyone will have some benefits from that.
Well, I dont mind getting the ball rolling and I will knock up a model over the next week, (If anyone has something that is ready to go and would be suitable (good windows, regular design, bit of grass/trees/ in scene) then now is the time to volunteer.
I can sort out the d/l of scene +textures.
who's interested????????

Hey men, for exterior daylight give a look to Maxwell! ....
No, remaining into vray, try to use a HDRI sky with a sun (0.7 bright yellow) positioned in the same place of the sun ot the HDRI and, sure, U should use raytraced reflections (with variable glossiness, depending on the material).
It's not very quick to render, but the result is very very good and real.
Alright! Im glad to see this thread has taken off! I thought it was dead. Good idea on the sharing a model and have different versions of the rendering.
one thing I try sometimes is lowering the Dark multiplier to get more contrast between light and dark. Once rendered, just adjust the overall contrast/brightness in post to bring out the darker shadowed areas (balconies etc). I think this looks better than raising the dark multiplier when rendering
anyway, will be nice to see some tips from those awesome 3d people out there (quit lurking ya lurkers)
Here's my take on this:
I generally use Exponential Color Mapping for exteriors as well as interiors, as it allows you to minimise burn on exterior surfaces while making interior spaces lighter. Set the sun multiplier quite high, which means you get nice areas of bounced light that you would expect from a bright light source like the sun.
Will see if I can dig out an example somewhere.
Have done some exterior shots recently but am not at liberty to show them.
Might have to mock one up.
Anyone got a scene we can test on? Perhaps this might be a good challenge for other members on this forum.
