  • glass with shadows and caustics

Is there any possibility to render glass with correct shadows and caustics? When i switch on caustics the shadow renders black and im not able to find any way around that.

you need to increase your caustics multiplier.

Yes i know that you have to increase the caustics multiplier significantly when you want to see caustics, but i dont want to loose my nice glas shadow with visible edges (like you get them with the egzVrayGlass Material) and Fog Color.

do you have affect shadows checked or unchecked.

Just try and egzGlass and turn on Caustics - the shadows are broken.

The shadows are not broken, it is this way by default. When caustics are turned on the affect shadows is disabled. You should be able to get it to look right with just the caustics.

This does not make any sense. Imagine a wall of hundreds of bottles. I want to have nice and quick shadows and a little bit of blinkering and life through caustics. I don't care about exact physics i want to get a nice image.
I think its important to make this possible. And i need to render in one pass because i want to see the caustics effects nicely refracted too.

I don't think there is anything wrong with EGZ glass. I tried this one last week and worked fine. All default settings with caustics.

timmatron can you send me your scene file (see your email)?

i have download the original maxwell scene and i get pretty good results with GI but my caustics look awfull.

im curious how you got so nice caustics.
would love to have a look on your scene setup.

Caustics like that are very easy to achieve. Instead try to get detailed shadow effects by caustics. Simple blocking of light does not need to be calculated by caustics or do you calculate the shadow of a hollow cube by invocing caustics too?

Can you post an example of what you are trying to achieve?
