    Hi.
We are new to V-ray and are trying to create a material resembling a stretch metal surface made of Corten. Beeing stretch metal, the surface must be partly transparent. Any suggestions on how to achieve this?

    Hi Per Morten,

To achieve transparency, you have to assign a map to the Opacity slot of the vrmat editor.

Since you are a beginner, first you can try modifying some of our ready-to use materials and then create your own. Browse the Metal category of the V-Ray material library (C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\V-Ray for Revit\vrmateditor\materials\Metal). You can use this one Metal_Pattern_F_bmp_5cm.vrmat and change its color. Or you can use the Metal_Weathered_S02_20cm.vrmat and assign an opacity map to it.

Although this topic is not covered yet in our quick start tutorials, I highly recommend you to watch them. They are a really good starting point which will help you to establish a proper workflow. You can find them here: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ckStart+Guides

Let me know if you need further assistance.

          Hi Bardia,

You cannot download vrmats, they are installed on your computer along with V-Ray for Revit.

Download free v-ray material for Sketchup; or RHINO. They have the extension * .vismat. All you need to do is change the extension to vrmat in the name. Then, with a double click on the resulting material, we run our v-ray editor for Revit. We modify the parameter of our new material and we have the correct new material. If you do, write me if it worked. I have done so several materials and they work. Nevertheless, in the material installed with the program, you can change the necessary textures, settings and we have new material. However, it is necessary to know about the principles of creating materials - a technique.

              Hi Marek,

Well done. Some vismats, however, might not appear as expected. Therefore, this workflow is not reliable. The best would be either creating a material from scratch or modifying any of the existing library materials.
