  • Using The VRAY Material

im working on using the VRAY MATERIAL Finally
and while trying to get better wood and floors with the glossy feature and after several takes on a floor for just a basic 12x12 interior, no matter what setting i did for the glossy parameter, whether .9 .8 .7 or .1 i always got the same result. after reading your settings, i saw that you said reflection RGB setting 32. so i was looking for that setting, but could not find where to set my RGB equal to 32. so i set each value at 32, behold my material slot began to reflect the background.
can you explain what that setting is, the proper way to evaluate different settings, and was it correct to set each r, g, and b to 32, or what? Also even with glossy on 1.0 because i adjusted the reflect diffuse color, it changed the material. Is there a help topic over the RGB values with Vray and how they affect the material.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Jet ..

well basically Black is no reflect and white is 100% reflect... you just adjust the value's from black to white, 32 happens to be a Grey ..

    have a look

      Thanks Natty!
      after having many failed attempts.
      here is my final result.
      A good hard days work.
The only thing that concerns me now, is that after i take the reflection rgb above like 45, i cant see the diffuse material anymore. its just clear and reflections. but it works
      thanks again

Basically you are turning the Mat into a mirror, so the colour will fade.

Jet, you can read the online help on the download site, there is a brief explanation on what the options in Vraymtl do, but I will take a note here also and make your question one of the several that I am including in a FAQ to which we will make tutorials, so it will be much more understandable for everyone.
          Best Regards,

Just a few points to help you get started...

In reality all materials are reflective but in VRay recreating this could cause extremely long render times so you have to be selective to what's necessary.

Most if not all materials reflective qualities utilize falloff. This can be used in VRay either by ticking Fresnel (Named after a French scientist Augustin Jean Fresnel http://www.google.com) and controlled with the IOR or by applying a Falloff map to the Reflections slot (which also contains Fresnel effect settings.

Sometimes you may even want to use a Falloff Map in the Diffuse slot to simulate reflections.
