  • Video Flickering

Hi! I'm rendering a large animation on Vantage but on this one, I'm getting a lot of noise/flickering on the video. Still images look just fine, please check the video and help me with any ideas. I have already tried increasing the samples and adjusting the ray termination values.

    Thanks!

These are my settings right now.

I have exported this as a live link and full scene and the issue is the same.

You posted in the other thread that you solved your issue by increasing camera samples to 400 and light samples to 16. Correct? I was going to suggest disabling "dynamic textures", "ray termination" and maybe light cache to see if that helps and if it didn't, then just use more samples. It seems it just needed more samples to reduce the noise sufficiently (the flickering occurs because the denoiser is getting too much noise).

Where do I disable dynamic textures?

something weird happened when I disabled ray termination, when I did it and went to the export dialogue I was getting a notification that I didn’t had enough memory to export. And this was with regular settings.

BTW, the first bed that you see in this video was giving me problems in the animation even with the upgraded settings, might it be something with the model?

I left rendering overnight night and it crashed about 3 hrs ago.

Also I don’t understand why is this happening. This is my 4th project with this house design and in the previous ones didn’t had any problems.

It could be an issue with the model, or it could be a problem with the Vantage bump mapping when combined with dynamic textures.
You can try disabling bump mapping on the bed material.
This might fix the problem without having to disable dynamic textures (which leads to increased GPU memory consumption).

It's most likely a coincidence, unless it's something you can reliably reproduce ?
I don't think I've seen this message, can you take a screen-shot if it appears again ?

In such cases, the Vantage debug log might help us.
However, you need to make a copy of it before starting Vantage again, as it will get overwritten.

I went back to the default settings. And turned off the "dynamic textures" and "ray termination", and it's working a lot better, still a little bit of distortion on the lights but for the time being I can live with that . To fix it, should I increase the sample size for this? I have it at 100.

Now is not letting me render this at 4K, any suggestions?

Turning "dynamic textures" on or off doesn't have an effect on the sampling noise, so you can enable it to save on memory.

I suggested disabling dynamic textures mainly because of that flickering bed, to see if it would stabilize.

I believe you can still render even though the memory estimation is in red, specifically when it's only 1GB above budget. The OS usually manages to handle this by swapping memory to CPU RAM.

Thanks! that made the trick, I'm rendering 90 frames @ 4k, 250 samples, and "dynamic textures" on, it will take about 2.5hrs, might cut it short just to see how it looks.

But thanks a lot for all the help, there should be an online tutorial explaining the management of memory.

Hi! I took the samples to 250 and 4k resolution, noise 0.01, please check the attachment, there is still some jittering. Should I take the noise to 0.001? thanks!

Not sure, you might have to increase the number of AA samples instead.

How many light tree samples did you use ?

Some of this jittering could be caused by the light cache too, but it's hard to tell.
