Does Vantage support the importing of .vrscene files? I see that vrmesh is supported but I am testing a scene that uses vrscene files imported into VRay for SketchUp and they do not seem to show up in Vantage.

    Are you using Vantage 1.8.2?

The .vrscene format is the default for what Vantage supports.

          Hi Matthew,

Support for VRayScenes imported inside another project is something that is currently being worked on and are not currently supported in the latest release in Chaos Vantage (1.8.2). Please read this thread here:https://forums.chaos.com/forum/chaos...within-a-scene

          Best regards,

Ah, so that’s the problem. Seems like all the pieces of the puzzle are there at least. Do you know if this feature will be possible in the near future? I have been in importing a good deal of Max models using vrscene and would love to be able to see them working in Vantage through our Sketchup workflow.

It works with .vrmesh but not .vrscene

You can import the .vrscenes into your Vantage scene and place them wherever you want. I know, it requires to do the placement of the .vrscenes of the scene in Vantage. This is not a big deal.

The problem with V-Ray is that the solution for exchanging 3D models between platforms with all the textures is in the .vrscenes (beware, this doesn't work 100% either). But Vantage is not 100% compatible.
Vantage works fine with .vrmesh, but the problem with .vrmesh is that it doesn't keep any material when exporting. You have to reassign everything by hand. A lot of work.

I never use the LiveLink, I always export. I haven't found any use for the LiveLink.

These are good tips, thank you. If you have a large scene that uses vrscene files scattered on a large site, it will be a lot of work. I'll stick to Cosmos assets for projects that I know are going to use Vantage and place any vrscene files only in 'hero' locations for the time being it seems. I have used vrmesh files in a Vantage scene using Live Link and have never lost the materials.

I was just talking about the loss of material on .vrmesh when you export from 3DSMAX to Sketchup, not Sketchup to Vantage.

The workaround I just came up with is to import the vrscene into SketchUp through SketchUp's importer. Materials seem to be translated into VRay. Then you can convert that import into a vrmesh. This seems to solve the issue with Vantage.

I know this manipulation, but I often encountered problems (missing materials, different materials, missing geometries).
Unless I'm doing it wrong to reliably export a .vrscene from 3DSMAX.
Do you have a great tutorial that works perfectly for a .vrscene export from 3DSMAX to Sketchup?

Yes, it does seem buggy at times. I recently bought a tree set from Evermotion and opted for the FBX format and I just use Transmutr to import and automatically turn them into proxies. It's truly a lifesaver!
