  • Camera (untargeted) not possible to orbit properly in Vantage

    Hello,
I could not rotate my camera properly in a test scene:

My vrscene was loaded with an untargeted camera.
(I also enabled Maya navigation, which I am used.)

I tried several times to orbit the camera, it was absolutely impossible, it rotated randomly like mad with highspeed around itself - even with testing very soft navigation or minimal movement.
I think the reason is that the camera was not targeted.
But whatever the reason is, I never experienced such camera behaviour in other applications, it really should not happen and being improved.
The same camera in 3dsMax was no problem at all.

    - Also it would be great to have access to all cameras of the original scene.

    Thanks

Do you happen to be working through some kind of remote desktop software? There is a similar issue with Windows Remote Desktop, but Vantage should be able to detect WRD and avoid the issue.

Which orbiting type are you using? (https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/LAV/Toolbars the one with "Navigates around cursor ray hit." etc)

Importing multiple cameras is on our TODO list, but note that it also requires changes to V-Ray for Max/Maya/etc. to have the data exported to vrscenes.

      Hello Nikola,

      thanks,

I did not check the orbit type. I will test this again tomorrow.

I'm not working "remote", just working normally sitting at the workstation.

I had a short look and I think it was "cursor ray hit", because this is the setting by default.
I will test tomorrow the other modes.

Some things to try that could help narrowing this down:
          * Try the free look mode - it's toggled with the tilde key above TAB. Does looking around with the mouse still behave crazy? You could also free look temporarily while holding the right mouse button in normal mode.
          * Very speculative: Close Vantage and open a command prompt in its folder. Type this before starting vantage.exe from the console (it will force it to apply the remote desktop workaround): set VRDX_REMOTE_DESKTOP=1

            Hi BeneZ

By any chance is your Chaos Vantage window on a second monitor with a dpi scale higher than 150%?

            Best regards,
            Alexander
