  • animation frames render freezes at 98~99% for 30sec

    Hi all,
When I render an animation at 1920x1080px with my 2 rtx2080Ti's + NVlink the frames will render quickly....untill it decides to freeze at around 98,66% or something. Does anyone know about this issue?
With this HD animation it started to freeze at frame 7, when I lowered the pixels (1280x720p) it rendered untill frame 600 perfectly within 45min or something but the last 120frames took almost 2hrs.....
Tempetures of the cards are fine, memory is fine.....I really have no clue.

Edit; the frames which are freezing in the end are not in the total mp4 animation!!!

      Hi

It sounds like this could be a synchronization issue when encoding video on the GPU. Does it only happen when you output video, i.e. does it happen if you only output png? Does it always freeze at frame 7 on 1080p?

        Hi Nikola,

        Thnx fot your reply.
No it does not happen precisely on frame 7, that is very random. I have to check if it depends wheter i use only png output or only mp4 output. It does freeze most of the times when I render it in 1920x1080 or larger. But again, not at a given frame.

If you have the time, could you try rendering with noise threshold set to 0.000 from the Render panel on the left? We are investigating a performance issue that occurs when the threshold is non-zero and multiple GPUs are used.

            Hi Nikola,

I tried with the noise threshold on 0.000 but almost the same result. Animation of 1920x1080, 720 frames, started to freeze after 639 frames...

OK. Have you tried PNG only? I know this all requires time but it will help narrow down the issue.

Also, have you tried different scenes? In other words - is the issue scene-specific or not?

                  Hi Nikola,
Thnx for taking the time to solve this.
It is not scene specific, it occoured on different scenes. Mosty when I render at larger frame ratio (1920x1080), below that it renders perfectly.
I havn't tried to render the png files only

                    Hi Nikola,

I have rendered an 1920x1080 animation of 465 frames. All went well, only png's, only mp4, mp4 and png, all good. This animation was more heavy on the polygons (20mln+) but this was an outside situation, the recent animation I tried to render was an intirior....

Are you using the recent 1.0.1 update now? It includes a change that affects noise threshold calculation and might be relevant to the issue. Although on the other hand you said earlier that it happened with 0 noise threshold. So we still can't figure out (through elimination) exactly what causes the issue. Maybe it is scene specific after all? Or needs >600 frames to occur...

This was not rendered with the latest update (which i have installed 5min ago) So I will try the interior scene again...Keep you posted

Since you already said it hangs even with N.T. 0.000, I'm doubtful this test would be any different. It's more interesting if you could render the other scene that had 465 frames with an extended animation of at least 650 frames.

like a charm, no issues, 756 frames, pretty quick....all png + MP4, update 1.01 installed.
                              try to render 2560x1440 now...
