  • PNG outline

I'm rendering out a sequence using PNG Alpha as my output, there is a white outline around all my trees but it's most noticeable on the tree to the right. I've run into this before and the solution was to render out the model using Black as my background color saving it out as a TIFF with an alpha and this eliminated the outline. I've done the same setup here but it doesn't change the outline and since PNG is really the only format I can save this out in I'm really afraid this won't work for compositing. I hope there's a work around for this, please give me some advice.

    Hi Devin,

Currently you can also export .exr files that also have render elements(albedo, bumped normals, z depth, additional(which is pretty much alpha), velocity). However, you can try the Defringe(Layer menu > Matting > Defringe) option in Photoshop with 1-3 px width. That should remove that outline.
Furthermore, you can try to place that background image in the Background category: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1xDOD...lvtcjvNtUl9_aW . Just switch the mode from 'Same as environment' to 'Image', set Mapping from 'Spherical' to 'Screen', and choose the appropriate Fit option.

    Best regards,
    Alexander

The Defringe tool did help to minimize the outline but it's still present in some frames.

Switching the background mode will probably remove the outline but it also removes the reflections that the HDRI was providing, unless I'm doing it wrong.

If Vantage had TIFF as an output option that would eliminate this problem, any chance that's going to happen?

        Hi Devin,

There is an option in the Background - 'Use for refraction/mirror reflections'. If you disable this then the reflections will be calculated from the hdr instead of the background.

We have that logged in but cannot say when it will be available. Will keep you informed when there is some development.

        Best regards,

Is there an issue with EXR?

Only that I've never used it before and I'm not sure how to get exactly what I need, not a great excuse I know.
