  • Scene wont render with the live link from 3ds Max on a 4070Ti but is fine on a 3070 and a 3090

Testing a scene with vantage and the scene will load fine on all 3 machines but only the 4070Ti crashes when trying to render a sequence.

attaching a dump file for the crash.

    the 3090 has 24GB VRAM
    the 3070 has 8GB VRAM
and the 4070Ti has 12GB VRAM

the scene gives no warning for VRAM usage but the 3070 uses a lot less than the 4070Ti does. it using about 8GB while vantage is open but the 3070 is only using about 2-3GB when monitoring through task manager.

the 4070Ti has windows 11 and the 3070 is still windows 10. Drivers are up to date.

    any idea whats happening?

Maybe your case is similar to the other thread from today: https://forums.chaos.com/forum/chaos...ter-video-card

Check the debug_log.txt file found in %APPDATA%/Chaos Group/Vantage

tried turning off the safe memory feature and still crashed. it crashes instantly as you press render. the scene is already open, it sounds like they couldnt even open the scene.

attaching the log.txt as well. usage is well below the budget memory?

        Hi TKT,

From the log I see that you have 2x4070Ti, is that correct? Can you try to open the scene with only 1 GPU? You can set the number of render devices from Edit>Render devices and after you select only 1 restart Vantage.

        Best regards,
        Alexander

some how missed that. There is only one 4070Ti in the PC. not sure why its picking up two! turned off auto select and just picked one of them and its instantly working fine.

any idea why there would be two seen inside Vantage? getting confused with onboard graphics some how?

          Thank you, Alexander.

This is a Windows bug that occurs with Remote Desktop. We have code to detect and ignore the phony second device (at least for NVIDIA), but apparently it didn't work on your machine.

ah! will keep an eye out on the other PCs as well for the future. Thanks!
