vrayproxy not working with vraydisplacementmod

Is this supported? My tests are based on the below instructions for Vray and I can't get it to work

I had 'Emulate 2d Displament' turned on in Vantage and that looks to be the issue. However, vray displacement worked normally otherwise, on non proxy objects and with 3d mapping set... So perhaps that setting is causing an issue only with proxies?
