  • Rendering animations - glass shimmering and smearing between frames

    Hi there!

I've been trying to get a good result with Vantage, but to no avail. Here are two examples:

Nvidia denoiser, 1500 samples, 700x200 resolution:

Intel denoiser. 2000 samples, 1400x400 resolution, LC retrace threshold 20:

    Settings:

I even tried with 4000 samples, with the reflection and refraction bounces up to 15 and 4 GI bounces, but the issue remains. I've seen animations made in Vantage in youtube that are very high quality, but I just can't achieve that.
I know that the Nvidia Optix AI denoiser is better for animations, since it can reduce flicker; however, when I use this denoiser I have a bug, where the last frames blend with the current ones, creating a ghost effect. Furthermore, with the Nvidia denoiser there usually remains speckled noise.

    Can someone help me?

    Software:

    - 3ds Max 2024
    - Vray 6, update 2
    - Corona 10 hotfix 2
    - Chaos Vantage 2.5.1
    - Nvidia Drivers 561.09
    - Windows 11

    Hardware:

    - CPU - AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970x
    - GPU - Nvidia RTX 3090

Hi, thanks for posting. Are you talking about the slight flickering in this area:

Please try the default settings and higher resolution.

Yes, the flickering in that area, and the smearing on the top of the tv furniture.

You're saying to select a quality preset like Ultra, right? And what about the render samples in the render setup? How many should I input?

I want to see what raising the resolution will do to the rendering in this specific scene. It is best if could test the scene myself. Please archive and send it for review here or through the support contact form.

Unfortunately I can't provide you the file. I spoke with my boss, and he told me not to share it.

I've been doing more tests, and it seems that I have the best results if I use the Nvidia Optix AI Denoiser Legacy Mode. The downside is that it tends to blur too much detail; however, it's still better than the ghosting and noising artifacts I get from the regular Nvidia Denoiser, and the lack of temporal coherence if I use the Intel denoiser.

One more downside of using the Legacy Mode is that denoising artifacts appear near bright sources of light.
