  • UVW Channels

    Hi all,

Is this supported, it suggests it is in the help docs?

See attached screen grab, the dots are on map channel 4 and should only come on for a few objects in the scene and then at a much small scale?

So some of the objects don't have channel 4 at all ?
It's possible that the V-Ray and Vantage behavior is different in such cases.
Vantage will certainly fall back to the default uv channel (1 in 3dsMax).
Not sure what V-Ray would do.

Can you send us the scene, or just the affected objects and materials for investigation ?

Also, are you on Vantage 2.7.0 ?
We have the following bug fix there : "Fixed random colored pixels when a mesh has three or more UV channels/sets with some unused"

      Greetings,

Yes, Vantage 2.7.0, it's showing channel 4 which is in the opacity map for the perforations, this is used in 3dsmax vray material and is on channel 4 and so should be off when there aren't any UVW channel 4 maps

Object should not have preforations as no UVW channel 4 present

Object with UVW channel 4 present and showing perforations correctly.
One thing to note is that the same material is applied to both obejcts but with differing UVW channels.
I can resolve this by creating an additional material but that it is unnecessary in 3dsmax/Vray itself.

        Thanks again,

        Jason

Ok, I need the scene or just the affected objects to investigate exactly what's wrong.

My guess is that Vantage is falling back to the default channel, since channel 4 is completely missing.

What should happen in such cases is a bit complicated, since we need to support other DCCs and
also cross applying Maya/3dsMax materials to 3dsMax/Maya objects where the default channel has
            a different number (1 in 3dsMax, 0 in Maya).

I can break out the objects very easily and send them across for closer inspection, where is best to send it?

              Thanks
