  • Using a Ramp for a Environment Fog Gizmo colour

    https://docs.chaos.com/display/VMAYA...nmentFog-color

"For the last 2 images, the fog Color has been mapped with a texture. World XYZ mapping type was used for the textures."

How exactly is this achieved? I've tried plugging in a ramp to the emission attribute for the Environment fog but it only sees the first colour, and doesn't use the UVs of my gizmo object. I've tried using a projection node plugged into the emission colour too, but this doesn't work either.

I'm attempting to use Env' fog to create a spaceship thruster, and need to map its colour via a ramp.

This is how I set it in Max, using just emission and transparency...don't know if that helps or not but it should translate.
Just in case it's not noticeable, I set the mapping to objecxtxyz rather than world, which works fine for noise but not a gradient in this instance

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, in Maya there isn't the option to set the mapping in the same way on a ramp node. A 2D UV-Based node or 3D projection has to be plugged in to the texture.

        Hi sebbiej,

Thank you for raising this! There is a mistake in the documentation page and I'll correct it.

You can use the projection node set as a Cylindrical and it should work as shown in the example. I'm attaching a simple setup you can download and check.

Here's a link to the folder with the scene.

I'm guessing this setup doesn't work with VRay GPU?

              Hey sebbiej,

It won't work with V-Ray GPU as setting VRayEnvironmentFog into a container is not supported yet.

              Cheers,
              Kristin
