  • Next vs Next Render Node

    Hi,
trying to figure out which license type is used when. See attached image.
This is what the license server shows with two computers running 3ds Max and Vray Next. Two "Next" available but not in use and two render nodes in use. This is from when both computers renders separate scenes. Shouldn't the "full NEXTlicenses" be in use? I thought the render nodes only kicked in when using machines only used as renderslaves.

Also tried to render using DR with my workstation and a renderslave. When doing so the other workstation that have Next installed still function to work with but can't render. Couldn't obtain license (-98 )

    Confused.

When you get a "Workstation" license - it consists of 2 parts - an Interface license that's specific to the 3D platform you use and a Render node license that's the same for all platforms. The render node license is engaged while you render, the Interface - when you use V-Ray's interface. In 3dsMax that means having render settings opened, or material editor, Phoenix etc. The behavior is a bit different across different 3D platforms because of their specifics and therefore - the way V-Ray's integrated, but that's the general idea.

Regarding DR - you need to have a free Render node license for the second machine. Also - if you use a single license server machine - make sure that the license settings are correct on the render slave - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings
