  • Please refine the price for a node licence to "per core"

    Hello Chaos Group Team,

it is currently very unbalanced und absolutely not fair that a user have to pay the same price for a node licence, whether he own a 4c/8t or a 32c/64t core render node.

Just a few years ago it was absolutely normal and contemporary to invest in several nodes with i7-6700k or i7-7700k processors.
Many users own exactly such a small render farm. These systems are still powerful enough and absolutely sufficient running in bucket mode.
More importantly, it is really unfair to force someone to replace the nodes with new ones, for which you have to spend a considerable amount of money.

I think, that a lot of users who are still working using vray 3.6 until today, couldn't switch to Next for financial reasons and that many of them own exactly a small, just few year old, render farm like descirbed above. The price per core would make it easier for them to upgrade to the current version.

Please offer that pricing very soon,

    Kind regards
    algato

Very good and valid point, I have already seen a couple of posts here from users who have small render farms and the pricing mechanism doesn't seem to work for them. I hope that its not too late and Your idea will be considered by chaos group and they can still change things. For me the most striking move was that they gave exactly 2 weeks to upgrade from 3.6 workstation to next, I don't know if it's just me but it just seems like forcing things and I don't think people like being forced.

On a bit different topic I sort of like like my licences work for forest pack and railclone, I own the software and don't have to fear loosing access to it but also pay for the updates, something like a maintenance fee.

i've noticed more concerning thing. 2 years ago perpetual Vray NEXT license was about 860 Euro. And i admit - it was milestone comparing to Vray 3,6. Now, the price is 1060 Euro ( tax excluded ) and , in my opinion, it looks more like update to Vray NEXT. Except lightmix there is not so many features that can excuse such big price jump. Material library? Who use that? Professional cg artists use custom made textures and shaders. Features like UVW randomize? There are tons of free scripts and plugins doing the same.
Rendernode upgrade price is almost the same as brand new rendernode price in 2018 . I don't know what to think about this new policy.

How is it fair to make people pay more to render because they invested in higher core pc's?! If anything you could turn your argument around. If you think the rendernodes are too expensive invest in high core count pc's to minimise the amount of licenses you need. It works both ways.

I think the bigger issue is that a lot of people think the nodes are too expensive and are looking for ways to make it cheaper. Which I do think is a valid point. The easiest obviously being just make them cost less. Have you considered the infrastructure and development needed from Chaos to license based on amount of cores per pc?! It would probably make them even more expensive!

Tbh I'm not sure what makes a fair price, indie licenses get mentioned but if you are just slightly higher then for example the $100K per year turnover cutoff point that gets used a lot all of a sudden you're in a $2.000.000 studio range paying 10 times as much for the same licenses. (See megascans among others) That's also ridiculous. And then you have regional pricing which brings it's own discussion. Tbh I don't see why a company located in a certain region should pay substantially more for the same product than someone from another region supplying the same product.
