  • Could not obtain a license (-98): … but there is a license available!

    Hi there,

I am testing VRay for Modo and a headless Windows GPU server. Now I want to test distributed rendering, but I am always running into an error:

error: Could not obtain a license (-9: There are no available licenses of this type on the ChaosGroup License Server.

But there is an render node license. I do not understand it! Why is the render slave not able to find it? What is the problem?!?

I just figured out that the distributed rendering will work when I deactivate the local rendering.
    Is this a bug?

It's not a bug. A Workstation license package contains 1 Interface license that gets engaged when you use V-Ray's interface and 1 Render node license that gets engaged while you render - https://www.chaosgroup.com/support/f...in-the-license
If the render node license is engaged by the local machine there won't be a free license for the additional render node.

Ah, okay. In this case I can not use V-Ray with the local machine and an additional network attached machine. Hmm …

I also tested VRscans and I have a watermark in the materials, wehen I render with distributed rendering. Why is this? I have a test license for VRscans.

And when I render via DR on my GPU server V-Ray is not using only one of the two GPU’s in that server and not CPU. Is this a bug or is this a limitation too?

These limitations are only good to prevent little one man companies to purchase V-Ray. On larger companies these limitations has no effect.

Yes, you can render on the workstation or on the render node. You'd need an additional render node license for the second machine.

You can check the license settings and restart the render slave. If you cn=ontinue having issues - message us at support@chaosgroup.com

Make sure both GPUs are selected for rendering - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...wareandDrivers

Task Manager is not very good in monitoring GPU usage - you can use GPU-Z or similar tool

            They are selected.

            I am using https://camwebapp.com
And I can see it on the GPU’s itself, only one of them is blowing like a blower. The other is silent and the fans are standing still.

Best to write us at support@chaosgroup.com in that case and we'll look into it.
