The license worked about two weeks and now it's gone again. It's nine P.M. here and I have a deadline in the morning. Any ideas?

I really need to get back working again. Why are You doing this to paying customers?

Try making sure that the license server is running - i.e. in Task Manager check if there is a process named vrol.exe running and if not - try running it manually from the Start Menu - start typing "license server" and it will probably pop up.

Also check if there are any firewalls or antivirus programs that might be blocking the license server accidentally.

        Best regards,

          Thanks for Your answer,

I started license server manually, but it didn't change anything. I use built in windows firewall.

I really don't get it. I'm right now at the office trying to get rendering started so I could have something for client in the morning. Chaos license server works like a lottery; I never know if I have license or not. I wish someone could contact me and and explain how the licensing works.

I have had 3DS license since 1992, but it has never been this difficult to get the license running.

You had this issue before and they logged in remotely and fixed it? Now however it's back? Have you installed any windows updates recently? My only guess is that something gets re-enabled that messes up the license server. It's nothing to do with the actual license so if they gave you a free license it would still not work as the license server it self is not accessible.
Without actually logging in and debugging this on your end I can only suggest to disable firewall, disable UAC, try to work under true windows admin account and possibly reinstall chaos license server under true admin account.

                Thanks,

This started when I had to reboot my workstation. I had to reboot, because I accidentally clicked Chaos Collaboration at V-Ray VFB. My system became very unstable mess. After reboot there's two things that does not work. License server and V-Ray Clipper.

I can render, if I send render job via Backburner to another computer as a node, but I can't render with my main workstation.

                  Hello,

can you please confirm that you can open the Chaos license server page at http://localhost:30304

If you cannot open http://localhost:30304, please confirm that the Chaos license server process is running on your machine. You can manually start the process by opening the vrol.exe located at C:\Program Files\Chaos\VRLService\vrol.exe

If you still cannot open http://localhost:30304. please perform the following commands described in the following article, one after the other, in Administrator Command Prompt:

                    Thanks,

I can open license server and I see the licenses there correctly. The issue is, that V-Ray in the local workstation doesn't see it. Therefore I can't use V-Ray in my main 3DS Max workstation.

Please confirm that your Chaos license server settings are pointed towards "localhost" or 127.0.0.1 - this is where your local license server operates. Detailed explanation on how to do that can be found here.

                        Thanks,

I think the settings are correct. However there isn't such thing as "Change license settings"

It would be great, if someone explained how the Chaos licensing system actually works, so maybe we find a solution which makes it possible for me to continue working.

I did use Microsoft copilot. It suggested me to swap to Octane render due to licensing problems with V-Ray.
