  • Could Not Obtain A License (-65533)

    Hi,

I have a dongle-based license for Vray for Rhino 2, and am receiving the error "Could not obtain a license (-65533)". I could not find this error code anywhere, so thought I'd ask here. Usually when the license starts playing up I just restart the service, switch USB ports and things work again. This same error message happens when I pull the dongle out, so I have my fingers crossed there isn't anything wrong with the dongle (device manager claims it is working properly).

I have reinstalled Vray & the WibuBox software, but the issue persists. Is anybody able to shed some light on this one for me? Any help is very much appreciated! Running Windows 10, FYI.

    Thanks,
    Ben

You can try a clean reinstall of the drivers:

    1. Unplug the USB dongle
    2. Download the attached file and rename it from "Wibu_clean_uninstall.txt" to "Wibu_clean_uninstall.bat". After that right click on it and choose "Run as administrator"
    3. Restart the computer
    4. Download the drivers from the link below and install them with admin rights (right-click->run as administrator):

    https://www.wibu.com/downloads-user-...uKey_for_Users

    5. Plug the dongle back in and wait until it's recognized by the OS
    6. Reinstall the license server - https://download.chaosgroup.com/license-server

This error usually means that the license is not found, you can check the status of the license server if you get it again - http://localhost:30304
The same error can also appear if you use an old Demo build - we discontinued them about a year ago.

Regarding the dongle - you can use a USB port on the back of the computer if you have such, in my experience, the dongles work better with USB 2 ports.

Thanks for the response, Ivan. I completed all those steps except the clean uninstall prior to posting, but am willing to try again from the beginning. The uninstall script doesn't appear to be attached - could you please do so?

The license server shows a green status, and also has a green status for the dongle, but I still get the 65533 message within rhino. Latest log from this morning is attached, plus another one after I changed the log settings to verbose. hope this helps.

      Thanks again.

Try installing this build (uncheck wibu drivers when installing) - https://download.chaosgroup.com/down...5-20026563-adv
If still unsuccessful - it'll be best if you write us an e-mail at support@chaosgroup.com

Thanks Ivan. I will do that in the morning (Australian time) and send through an email if unsuccessful.

I'm getting this same error on a few of our render nodes in the Backburner Server.

"V-Ray Error: could not obtain a licence (-65533). The ChaosGroup License Server could not be reached (timeout)."

A couple of our nodes are rendering fine, but then others aren't. We could do with a fix asap...

              Hello,

Please check your current licensing configuration on the nodes that are reporting that error:

              https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings

Are they pointed to the correct IP address and can you test the network connectivity by trying to open the web interface from them: http://IP_ADDRESS:30304 ?

                Hi Ivaylo,

Thank you for the quick response. In the Licence Service Information I've got the correct IP addresses in for our licenced PCs (this should work, as it's how we've always had this set up). I've also tried putting in our Chaos Group log in details under the Online Authorization Settings, but neither seems to work.

I'm also able to get to the web interface from one of the dodgy nodes, there I can see the Maya tab, and the render node tab.

                Thanks,

                Seb

You can try to install the latest license server and also disable the dongle, if you are only using online licenses.

What is the version of V-Ray for Maya that you have installed on the nodes? Are you able to render on them, if you send a Distributed Rendering job, instead of using Backburner?

                    Hi Ivaylo,

So it turned out that our rather annoying IT department had decided to install new anti-virus on our PC's without telling us, so it stopped our connections through its new firewall. Many thanks for your help though!

                        Hello,

Please set the IP of your main workstation as the Primary license server address:
                        https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings

Afterwards please restart the V-Ray Render Slave on the render node machine.

Please note that there is no need to register the V-Ray Render Slave on your workstation.

Additionally please exclude the local machine from rendering in the V-Ray settings on the Workstation:
                        https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ngs-Parameters

Then please go ahead and test the rendering.

Can you please confirm that you have excluded the local workstation from rendering. The error now indicates that V-Ray was able to reach the license server however there are no available licenses. In case you have only one V-Ray Render node license it will be used by your local workstation if it is not excluded from the rendering - this means that there will be no V-Ray Render node licenses left for your render node station.
