SketchUp 2018: Failed to checkout V-Ray GUI license

Hello V-Ray Technical Support staff,

My name is Valin and I’ve just installed V-Ray 3.6 for Sketchup – trial version – to consider it for purchase. When I try to run V-Ray from SketchUp I get the error: “Failed to checkout V-Ray GUI license”.

I saw on the V-Ray Forum the advice to delete the cgauth.dll file from the Sketchup 2018 folder if I found one in there. I looked and did not find this file in the folder.

The name of the V-Ray installation application I used is: vray_trial_36001_sketchup_win. I installed SketchUp 2018 and V-Ray to my D: drive so my C: drive mainly handles my OS – Windows 10 64 bit. My key computer hardware is an Intel Core i7 6400 CPU and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 FE graphics card.

I found this link in the Forum to the latest license server ( https://download.chaosgroup.com/license-server ) and downloaded re-installed the license server and now V-Ray is working for me. Looking forward to exploring its capabilities!

I keep getting this error after reboots of my PC on first SketchUp start. When I run the license installer again it goes away until the next reboot.

You can check the startup type of the license server service -> Run-> services.msc->VRLService. By default should be set to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" - you can right-click it and chage the startup type if another one is set.
Also - if you hav an ativirus - check the logs if it doesn't delete the license server's service - you can add an explicit exception for it.
