  • Trying to recreate drop splatter effect

    Hello everyone,

Just got Phoenix FD and I am looking to create the animation of the water drop like in this video:

Is this possible with Phoenix FD? Or can it handle creating rain that will interact with geometry.

Sure, definitely possible - you need a lot of surface tension, droplet breakup = 1, large droplet radius, several Step Per Frame and no wetting on the geometry.

Here are a few comparison videos with the surface tension settings: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...SurfaceTension

    Cheers!

      Hey Svetlin,

Thanks for the link and the positive vibes man. I am actually working in Maya. Can I still follow the same procedures that are listed in Max or are these docs available for Maya users as well?

Oh, sure, here are the maya ones, but the Phoenix core is the same between Max and Maya, so such settings behave the same way: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...nixFDSimulator

        Cheers!

Another question my gurus. Im happy with the way the water effect is sliding and beeding off the surface but I wanted to know whats the best approach to have some of the water drops hit the surface of my geometry and break up into additional water droplets? Like in the video from time frame 7-to 10 seconds. I included the scene to see if you have any suggestions.

              Hey,

In the video there is a big drop that falls down and breaks to smaller ones. I have tweaked your scene a bit to match this case.

              - I have removed the box from the Liquid source so it will be easier to see what is going on.
              - I have created a sphere, added PhoenixFD attributes and turned on Initial Liquid Fill - this way the sphere will act as our big droplet
              - For the Grid settings - I have increased the scene scale to 6 - this way the liquid will move a bit slower and the water hit will look a bit heavier
              - For the Liquid settings - I have increased the Surface tension to 1, set the Droplet breakup to 1 and reduced the droplet size to 0.8

              Cheers,

                Georgi,

Thank you very much for taking the time to check this out ma dude. Downloading now and going over the notes you posted to see what the updates look like.

                  Georgi,

This is great man. I did want to ask you, if I want to create a bigger splash can I increase the size of the simulator in Y and move the sphere up? Im guessing yes because that will make the liquid pick up momentum and hit the surface of my object at a higher rate. Maybe change the discharge value in the liquid source to be .1 instead of .01? Am I on the right track?

Would it be possible to add this demo as a max scene ?

Moving the sphere up and increasing the scene scale would create a bigger splash.

Sure - we'll add similar scene in a few days to our Template scenes section here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...emplate+Scenes

                      Cheers,

Nice Georgi. Thanks again, giving this a try. I will post after I have done some tests.
