Yes, Phoenix displacement is calculated at pre-pass, so it happens while you see the 'transforming vertices' process. However, I can't seem to get the same slowdown with the beer scene. Could it be that you have any modifications to the scene, or is it untouched from the link above? Also, does removing any geometry or Phoenix node from the scene help remove the slowdown.

If you can send me the Phoenix log file while 3ds Max is running and the slowdown has just happened, it would be very helpful as well.

    Cheers!

I was not talking about Phoenix displacement.
      But for regular displacement
And as I said it didnt work as it should for Dual Xeons.

But the foam reminded it to me as it similar. (this time is Phoenix issue)

PS By the way where can I find the Phoenix log?

      Regards,
      Zach

Hey, it's usually in C:\Phoenix FD - it's very important that you grab the log file and not the backup file and Max must still be running right after you get the issue. Otherwise the log gets erased every time you start 3ds Max.

Hey, just an update - found a way to render that scene as quick as in 3.03 without changing any settings - the change will be in tomorrow's nightly.

          Cheers!

Still it would be great if you manage to grab a log of the pre-render slowdown you are getting..

I don't know how is 20 times faster when in my system is about 2 sec slower.
I render a few frames of my scene
In the previous nightbuild I had 2:27 and 3:32 (in some frames
And in the latest nightbuild (2 January) on the same frames I have 2:29 and 3:34
So its not only faster quite the opposite (of course for a very small margin) but still way off to be faster.

I don't know why but as I said in my previous posts it takes time to calculate when is a lot of foam (when it does transforming vertices)

                      I forgot that sorry :P

And by the way why I don't have the faster render foam?

Thank you! This seems to be a different scene though - it's not the beer scene and the grid size is quite different, so we are not talking about the same thing at all.

If you like, please link the scene you are using and we'll continue from there...

                        Cheers!

No its not the beer scene.
I used the beer scene to check if my suspicions were right. (that the foam is slower than in the 3.0 version of phoenixfd)
I will send the scene to support but I don't know how it would help you.
Its not that the scene is wrong.
Whenever I have foam, the foam except of the 1st time I render a frame, the next time it would take a lot of seconds to pass the transformation vertices stage of the render. If the scene has a lot of foam.

And again you didn't answer my question.
Why after using the latest nightly still I haven't seen any difference whatsoever in the render speed of the foam, when other people seen a difference.

I still gotta figure out why, can't answer the question yet. Was hoping that the Phoenix log would contain something suspicious, but seems like the usual suspects are all fine. Do you happen to have a V-Ray log from the first render which is fast and then the slow one?

So both the beer and the Liquid_Stream03b scenes are not getting faster with the new nightly?

Nope as I said yesterday actually are about 1-2 secs slower in most frames (sometimes are the same)
So this is my question at the moment.
Why I haven't seen any speed improvement? If I take into account the post from Magnum_design that he was referring to big improvements in foam render speed.

Indeed, I hope that using the same scene as you will help find the answer.
