  • helicopter thru cloud

i have a helicopter flying thru clouds and i need it to interact with the cloud but every-time the heli goes thru cloud the whole cloud explodes. Any ideas how to fix this just want the part of the cloud that the heli goes thru to interact not whole cloud.

You have to find out why it explodes in order to figure out what to do about it.

Just guessing - if the movement of the helicopter is too fast, or maybe the movement of the rotor is too fast, go to its right click properties and reduce the motion velocity multiplier.

Also, it could be that your geometry is not clean and watertight, which could break the solver. As always, make sure to have no inverted normals, no overlapping faces, and that the geometry is closed and there are no missing faces.

Hope this is in the right direction

Thank you for the info i already have tried the motion velocity multiplier, since you mentioned the geometry thing that might be the issue i will try that

          Hey,

Can you send over the scene so we can take a look what is going on?

          Thanks!

We could sign an NDA if needed (if that's an option - just send a mail to our support and they will help you out) or if possible you could remove all of the confidential assets from the scene and send it over.

              Thanks!

Sorry outgoing velocity brush? Are you using the helicopter and it's blades as a source that's pushing out velocity along the normals of it's polygons? It should behave well if you just have the regular animated mesh colliding with the grid?

i can recommend jess pitelas new phoenix training for this (and many other) common situations.
short and to the point videos with example files to deconstruct. i believe a combo of his static smoke, rotor wash and falling osprey tuts should give you a comprehensive overview of this type of effect.
