    Hi,

I am trying to convert a PRT sequence made with Max fluid to a VDB using the cache_converter. I have followed your tut on youtube which is very clear, but I keep getting this error and I can’t figure out why. Even though it tells me what to do, when I do it, nothing changes.

Could it be because the PRT files are made from a different flip solver?
Or is it just my own ignorance?

    Here is my command line:
    cache_converter.exe -srcfile D:\Luke Penry Dropbox\Luke Penry\Luke\1-Work\1-3Ds Max\Scenes\2022\fungus\fungus-91\SimCache\fungus-91\Liquid001\Solver01_Copy\Liquid_####.PRT -dstfile D:\Luke Penry Dropbox\Luke Penry\Luke\1-Work\1-3Ds Max\Scenes\2022\fungus\fungus-91\SimCache\fungus-91\Liquid001\Solver01_Copy\Test_####.vdb"

    here is the error:

    C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\Phoenix FD\3ds Max 2022 for x64\bin>cache_converter.exe -srcfile D:\Luke Penry Dropbox\Luke Penry\Luke\1-Work\1-3Ds Max\Scenes\2022\fungus\fungus-91\SimCache\fungus-91\Liquid001\Solver01_Copy\Liquid_####.prt -dstfile D:\Luke Penry Dropbox\Luke Penry\Luke\1-Work\1-3Ds Max\Scenes\2022\fungus\fungus-91\SimCache\fungus-91\Liquid001\Solver01_Copy\Test_####.vdb"

Your "-dstfile" filename does not have a valid extension! Please append '.aur/vdb' to the end of it.

    Sorry for all the text!

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Hey,

It seems like you have spaces in the directory name. When you have spaces in the path, the command line can't distinguish between different arguments - this is a common behavior for all of the command line apps.

How about if you add your input with quotes like this: "D:\Luke Penry Dropbox\Luke Penry\Luke\1-Work\1-3Ds Max\Scenes\2022\fungus\fungus-91\SimCache\fungus-91\Liquid001\Solver01_Copy\Liquid_####.PRT"?

    Hope this helps!

Hey, yes it did help thank you. You got me to the next step. but now i encounter a cache load error

      Error
      Converting D:\Luke Penry Dropbox\Luke Penry\Luke\1-Work\1-3Ds Max\Scenes\2022\fungus\fungus-91\SimCache\fungus-91\Liquid001\Solver01_Copy\Liquid_PRT\Liquid_0000. prt to D:\Luke Penry Dropbox\Luke Penry\Luke\1-Work\1-3Ds Max\Scenes\2022\fungus\fungus-91\SimCache\fungus-91\Liquid001\Solver01_Copy\Liquid_PRT\Liquid_0000. vdb | 0%...

I have checked the cache was not in use. restarted my PC to make sure. I tried to output it to different directories on D and C drives.

      Command line:
      C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\Phoenix FD\3ds Max 2022 for x64\bin>cache_converter.exe -srcfile "D:\Luke Penry Dropbox\Luke Penry\Luke\1-Work\1-3Ds Max\Scenes\2022\fungus\fungus-91\SimCache\fungus-91\Liquid001\Solver01_Copy\Liquid_PRT\Liquid_####. prt" -dstfile "D:\Luke Penry Dropbox\Luke Penry\Luke\1-Work\1-3Ds Max\Scenes\2022\fungus\fungus-91\SimCache\fungus-91\Liquid001\Solver01_Copy\Liquid_PRT\Liquid_####. vdb"

Could it be my prt files generated from max fluid?

      Thanks again!

Hmmm, can you send just one such prt, for example the smallest one, so we can check it?

Hey, thanks for the .prt file!

It seems to be working here. Could you tell us which is your Phoenix version? In order to find out the exact Phoenix version you can check the About info window. 3ds Max → Top 3ds Max Phoenix FD Menu → About Chaos Phoenix.

            Thanks!

Cheers for testing, that's interesting. I may try it on a collegues PC to check it being something wrong with my own PC

I can't get it to work unfotunatly. Are you aware of any other prt to vdb converters that exist?

                    Hey,

We checked your PRT here and it converts fined to VDB with the latest Phoenix 4.41 nightly. Are you sure you installed that and the installation went successfully?

                    Cheers!
