Or is there a tutorial on how to make missile smoke emit?

Hey, not currently, but how can we help? Are you having trouble wetting up the particle emitters? How does your simulation look currently and what settings do you use?

Hi. To be honest I'm not sure where to start on getting a missile smoke trail. Can you point me to anything or provide a simple example to get me started?

Ah, how about the rocket scene here? https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4MAYA/Example+Scenes

Also, please check the Jet Engine toolbar preset and hot it's set up - this might also give you some ideas: https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...mulation+Setup

Just a note - in the submarine-launched ballistic missile tutorial, the smoke is born from particles, emitted by the nozzle of the missile, but this is not the only way you could approach it. Yes, you could create nParticles from the missile and then pick them as emitters in a Phoenix Source, but you could also use the missile geometry as an emitter in the Source directly, and you could make it emit strongly in one direction using a discharge modifier based on the normals, or using an emit material - https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...hoenixFDSource (see the Rocket launch scene for reference).

I did fid the rocket example scene. I'm looking for a missile to ignite quickly and not have as much smoke: Example

This is still is another example of:

Sure, you can change the keys on the Source and reduce the Smoke in the Source, but the principles are the same.

You can also take a look at the 3ds Max submarine launched missile tutorial for reference of the values used in the Source and in the Dynamics rollout of the Simulator, as well as the scale of the scene.

How do I adjust how quickly the smoke dissipates?

This is exactly what I am trying to recreate:

                    3 seconds after launch:

I will take you advice and look at the 3ds Max tutorial on the ballistic missile launch but any other pointers you may have I'd appreciate.

That Max ballistic missile tutorial is just too hard to follow for me. Is there anyway somebody at Chaos can help me out with a simple scene to achieve the screenshots above? It would really help me get going in the right direction.

In the Dynamics rollout there is a smoke dissipation option, you can look it up in the docs here: https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...Smoke+Dynamics

Oh, please list everything that you find difficult to understand in the tutorial and we'll help make it clearer. Otherwise, if we port it to Maya, it would be just as hard and won't do you any good.

Also, could you please share the results you get so far with Phoenix and the settings you used? Once I know what you've got, I can help you tweak it in the right direction.

                          Cheers!
