  • Phoenix Fire & Smoke Sim Export With Material IDs

    Hi All,

I am trying to export a single simulation with two emitters, I have two fire sources which emit a different colour. I want to be able to take this into Unreal Engine. When I export as alembic the colour I have specified is lost and there is no material IDs for the two emissions. Is there a way to export this with a material ID for each ploom so that when I get into Unreal I can add a different material to each ploom? I need to have the two emissions mix in the middle so running separate simulations wouldn't work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ah, how about if you use VDB instead of ABC?

I have considered it but the file sizes are huge in comparison. I still need to be able to allocate material IDs to the two blooms.

Yes, unfortunately VDBs are huge, but this is because they keep all the data. With ABC, you need to turn the fire or the smoke into a mesh surface, and unfortunately there is no way that I know of that would allow you to keep the RGB of the simulation over the mesh. It will be great if we make our own ABC exporter at some point so we could make this happen.

Would VBD keep the Material IDs?

Ah, it's going to contain the RGB colors.

Yeah so it will look like this eventually but in unreal rather than corona...

I just need to work out how to integrate the two colours as material IDs on the export. They dont have to have colours just different material IDs.
