  • Phoenix Preset Fire/Smoke Won't Render

    Hello,

I'm having issues rendering a Preset Fire/Smoke scene in Phoenix 5 (with V-Ray 6 on a 3ds Max 2023) and I'm clearly missing the correct steps or selections in the workflow. Though the fire renders fine, the smoke will not render. I did refer to this exchange in the Phoenix forums: https://forums.chaos.com/forum/phoen...-phoenix-smoke , however the problem still persists even though I followed the same steps as the OP in that thread. Should add that I did tweak the Smoke Opacity in the Volumetric Render Settings, but that didn't help either. I've attached both the 3ds Max file as well some images which hopefully will help in assessing the issue.

    Thanking you in advance!

Oh, the thread you were looking at has nothing to do with your issue. Looks to me like you are basically using the Fire preset - it would render just the Fire and would not render smoke - this is the idea of this preset. I suggest you just choose the Burning Fuel toolbar preset instead.

However, if you want to modify this specific simulation in order for it to show smoke, then please check your Output rollout (here you tell the simulator what data to write to caches while simulating) - the Grid Smoke channel is not even exported there, so there is no way for the renderer to see it. You could also check the Cache File Content box in the Simulation rollout - it shows the data loaded from the cache you are currently looking at for this current timeline frame.

    Cheers!
