Indeed, what Joelaff said - we take extra care for Phoenix nightlies to be stable and always in great condition and have a lot of framework around that to verify it.

I've always made sure that Phoenix nightlies are open for everyone so that new features and bug fixes can be used immediately by everyone. Whenever there are new 3ds Max or Maya versions, I've usually not been in a hurry to release officially because everyone who writes to us has been satisfied with the nightlies until the official release comes. In fact during our official release testing process for the past couple of years we've never found blockers with 3ds Max or under Windows - usually there are Linux or macOS issues affecting Maya because we don't have a developer working daily on those operating systems.

I can confirm that we will be moving the official release sooner, but as always - if you have any issues with the software, ping us and we can usually solver anything urgent in a day or two.

      Cheers!

Ok great thanks both. So I'm safe to download and install the latest nightly. Or should I be sticking to the build number a couple of posts back?

Okay, so I will need more info:
              - Are you installing a nightly from this day? https://nightlies.chaos.com/#/phoenix5max/nightly/20230509
              - Are you installing Phoenix for V-Ray 5 or V-Ray 6?
              - Did Phoenix work ok for you with another 3ds Max version before?
              - Are you installing in the default location - C:/Program Files, or somewhere else?

and finally, if you type "env" in the start menu and choose "Edit the system environment variables", then "Environment Variables..." at the bottom, what PHX_FOR_3DSMAX***** variables do you see? Here are mine for example:

                - I tried 3-4 latest versions - all the same error.
                - v-ray 6
                - yes works on 2022 - vray 6
                - default, so yes program files

Huh, so the variable is there. Wonder why it can't read it...

What would happen if you install a latest nightly for 3ds Max 2022 as well? Would it run normally?

Also, do you start 3ds Max 2024 as Administrator or in any special way?

                  Cheers!

                    nightly on 2022 works fine.

Seems like it works now when i run as administrator. do you know how i can make it work when run normally?

Phoenix seems to be powerful. It is a shame that it is not node base like Houdini and Blender with the option to name a group of your presets. At the moment going in and out of a bunch on menus you can quickly get really confusing.

truc_lam, hey, could you tell me more about naming presets? Do you mean you want to make your own simulation or rendering option presets, or more like creating a more complicated custom setups of several nodes, like the toolbar presets?

Hi, is there any update on the official release?

Sorry, it's forbidden to share any info about upcoming releases. All I can say is that unless someone dies, there will be a release )

Is it a problem for you to use the nightlies I suggested above?

hehe, yes for me personally it's fine to use nightly build, but I'm also using external farms a lot so can't rely on them to install those builds.

I’ll wait it out, or I might take the risk and assume it’s coming pretty soon
