  • Keep active objects static until hit by liquid

    Hi Magicians,

Perhaps any of you could help me out. I'm simulating a crowd being hit by a large body of liquid. The crowd consists of plastic dummies, which I've added as active bodies ot the sim. However once the sim starts, all the dummies start to fall down, since the bullet engine starts doing its work. Is there a way to keep active bodies static until hit by the liquid, without having to build support geo to hold the crowd in place? FYI, I've tried used tyflow for this, which of course allows to do just that, whoever the fluid force operator is giving undesirable results hence I'm using the build in active body system.

    Any help is greatly appreciate!

    Thank you,

    Tim

    Hey,

You could use the Make Active Body Static option found in the Chaos Phoenix Properties menu. The option can be animated so the Active Bodies could be static for the required frames. Here you could find more information about the Make Active Body Static option - https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...BodyProperties.

In addition, for easier setup, you could use the Phoenix Property Lister - https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...roperty+Lister

    Hope this helps!

      Hi Slavina,

Thanks so much for you apt reponse. This might help us. However in our particular case, the liquid hits some Active Bodies first, while others only get affected as the liquid starts to spread. If I understand correctly, in your suggested solution this would require me to manually determine which Active Bodies turn from static to active without precisely knowing what the liquid is doing. There is no way to 'automatically' switch from static to active based on distance to the liquid for instance?

      Thanks!

Yes, you will need to do this manually - there is currently no way to do it automatically. It's on our to do list and I will add one more vote for it in our system.
