  • What are the main setup differences when using Vray instead of Scanline

    Hi guys,
i am very new to Phoenix and i ve been wondering whether there is some guide how to render the Phoenix fire simulation properly with Vray instead of using Scanline.

When watching all those tutorial videos, i ve noticed that Michael uses Scanline to render the fire, which lets him tweak the fire and smoke look very easily and kinda predictably.

However this doesnt apply when using vray camera and VFB.

Using the setup at 1800 gives good result but the some is very hardly visible and the fire gets clipped around the ground plane...

is there some sort of 101 about using Vray in connection with Phoenix??

I thought that using this product would be much simpler with vray but it seems otherwise :-/

Can you please help me out with this???

    Thanks a lot

    All the best

    Martin

this break of the fire at the plane edge looks like version mismatch, as i remember if the scanline version is rendered with VRay the result without background geometry is incorrect. see the rendering dialog, if the VRay controls are grayed this is it. or just see the about box, there is written too.

    regards,

      I am using

      Vray Advanced 2.10.01
      and
      Phoenix FD Adv 12000_max2011_vray20_x64

might it be because of the th fact that i am using the last vray 2 version the SP1???

can't say the reason yet, but if you switch the renderer to scanline and back to vray, the problem disappears.
i added a pure black box behind the fire to make the effect clearly visible, i hope soon can say more.

well, the solution is: check the "affect background" option in the vray color mapping panel
