  • Wind Tunnel effect

Need some help in setting up a simulation.
I'm trying to archive some kind of wind tunnel effect using phoenixfd.
Like getting a relatively thin layer of smoke blown over an object (car or something else).

I figure I need a high discharge value but my main problem is trying to keep the smoke from expanding is there any way to regulate that? Currently I'm always ending up with big marshmallow clouds :>
    Cheers,
    Oliver

I'd rather approach it similar to the real world. Try a tunnel with a lot of wind and smoke beeing injected with a low discharge rather than blow the smoke from the source.

Thanks for the advice, Still haven't gotten exactly what I'm looking for but using a wind space warp seems like the way to go. Big thanks (totally forgot they're supported by phoenix)

well, the space warps are slower, you can use a big source that emits pure air in the one end of the tunnel, this must be faster

Could you please elaborate on that Ivaylo?

If you add an additional source (based of a plane e.g.) that does not emit temperature (set to 300, which is environment temperature unless you init from a tex or a script) or any other channels and has a high discharge.

This essentially injects velocity ("air") into your grid. this is faster than Spacewarps because Max spacewarps are not multithreaded.

As a side note it can be a good idea to decrease the default vorticity for windtunnel type effects to get less whirly streams of smoke

Will keep that in mind thanks.

Additional Question: Is there a way to effect the color of the smoke?
