  • Trying to fill an object

    Hi,

I am trying to fill a simple sphere with liquid.
I am trying the "brush" way but the liquid settle to a very low level within the sphere.
I want to try to fill it to 3/4 of the volume and let it settle before I make it burst out of the sphere.

is there a simple way to achieve this?
I have attached my file to show what is going on.

    Sphere.zip

    Thanks,

    Yannick

You can use the option "Initial fill up" under the Liquid section.

I tired that but that filled my grid and not just the object. Am I missing something?

      Thanks,

Ah yes, it will fill only for the simulator's grid.

There is one thread about the same setup here:
        http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...+object+liquid

Example scene file is attached below. (Svetlozar's post)

          Hi,
I saw that thread earlier but the example has 2 cubes, with one cube filled with smoke.
The smoke in the example seems stable.

When I try something similar with a liquid, the liquid is disturbed.

So my alternative has been to fill my sphere with a source object and wait for the liquid to settle. But I can't manage a near balanced liquid.

here is what I am trying to achieve:
I have a sphere that is filled at 90% by a liquid
Then the sphere is disturbed, which make the liquid moving creating waves
The sphere then dissolves, releasing the liquid.

I am pretty short on time and really want to see if I can achieve this with Phoenix, if not I need to find another way.

          Cheers,

            Hi again,

Please try this example scene. The setup is similar to the other one, but with liquid.
Generally you should be able to get a stable liquid result within fifteen frames

            Hope it helps.

              Hi Tashko,

              thanks for the file.

I see what I was doing wrong, my emitting shape was open which was causing problems and I was trying to use the same geometry for the container and the emitter.
Thanks again for the file. I will continue my project in Phoenix, rather than some Spanish software.

I noticed that you have the velocity on in the source? Wouldn't this create any issue?

              Cheers,

It doesn't matter for this setup whether it will be checked or not. It will be taken into account when the source object is moving.

                  great. Thanks.

Another question: I haven't tried it yet (stuck in something else at the moment), but can I use Maya fluid a field to affect the Phoenix sim?

Can you rephrase this "can I use Maya fluid a field to affect the Phoenix sim"?

I use Maya fluid as field for my nparticle simulation. It drives the particle movement (though velocity and turbulence), this create nice flowing movement with swirls. I was wondering if I could influence my Pheonix liquid the same way.

I got this answer in another thread:

You can move nParticles with Phoenix FD in the same way. Phoenix itself doesn't interact with Maya fluids in any way, only with Maya fields. The opposite is probably possible - to affect Maya fluids with Phoenix FD field. The problem is that the fluids in Maya don't have such field AFAIK.

Is there a max equivalent for this scene ? I'm having trouble filling up a sphere that I've set as an emitter via phoenixsource (liquid).
                            Regards

If you wish to fill up the volume of the sphere and you are using Phoenix 3.0 for Maya there is no need to add the sphere to the source.

Just add the Phoenix Attributes from the Attributes menu and check Initial Liquid Fill.
