  • Maelstrom Map with waveforce

Hi, Im trying to create a liquid swirl on a pool, and I have already tried the max vortex force to achieve the look I need to, but it seems that you have to add another force like a wave or something to get those swirl lines properly, because if not, the liquid will be flowing around the core without any ripple or interesting behaviour, also, the vortex space warp is quite difficult to setup for something like this. Now Im trying a different approach, and is using and old plugin from Blur Studio called Maelstrom Map. It is a procedural spiral (it has also rings but for this case I reduced them to 0) and it has a phase that let you animate its rotation. I have tried using it on the displacement on the rendering tab of phoenix and it looks ok (in this case I had to set it to explicit map channel), but now Im wondering if I can use it in the wave force to drive the simulation. I have tried it with a huge value without any luck. Im wondering of you can help me, give me any tip or if you think there might be any good different way to do this.
    Thanks!
Here is an image of how it looks with the displacement

the vortexforce does not produces waves because the low resolution, just increase the resolution and the waves will appear.

Hi Ivaylo, thanks for your answer, but I actually was able to have that waves with that resolution but not constant, I had them because of the first impact the fluid receives from the force, that created some waves that in mix with the vortex gave me the desired result but not for long, and I need to replicate that effect for a bit more time. Here is a link where you can see that test Im talking about. https://vimeo.com/159361653
Also, my question was more related to the chance to use any procedural (or even a map) as a force inside the wave force from phoenixfd, it's posible? I run some test without any luck.

BTW Im runing a test with higher res

ok, another idea, put some underwater objects to disturb the flow.

I'll try that, but I wanted to show you the result with higher resolution. It looks nice on a moment but then it looks like the force moves all the liquid at the same rithym. Im going to try to use some with of fan under the liquid to see if I can get a better look. Here is the link https://vimeo.com/159398475. pass phoenixfd

hahaha, this video invokes association to shockwave traffic jam , problems like this cam make you hair white
well, my suggestion to put underwater obstacles is still valid, very probably they will break the grouping.

Hahaha, pretty accurate analogy, actually very interesting video.
About the simulation, I have done one last night that looks much better (still using vortex force, but Im now using 2, one with an small rotation on X). Im going to try the one with the obstacles, I'll let you know.
About my question related with procedurals, do you think it is possible?

the wave force accepts only ocean texture, no chance.
the idea of the mapper was to make such operations, but it was rarely used and it's not supported in the flip core.

I recently did a nice vortex for a project I can't show anything yet, but I was using only some rotating underwater objects without any force and the result was pretty nice like that.

Really funny the traffic jam video!
