  • PRTLoader with PHXFoam

I am trying to render some particles loaded with a PRTLoader, but shaded with PHXFoam. These particular PRT files were exported from Phoenix.

I can load the PRT files in with a PRTLoader. I can see the particles in the viewport. I set both viewport and rendering to 100% in the PRTLoader.

I added a new PHXFoam, and selected the PRTLoader as the source particles. I get nothing in the render.

Is this supposed to work? Looks like I have build 24510 installed. I can grab the latest nightly, but updating the entire farm is a pain.

    Thanks.

I am on the latest nightly now. There have been a lot of improvements! I still can't get this to work, though.

Aha! It seems that PRT files created with the older 24510 release build do not work correctly. PRT files created with the latest build are working!

I got clued in to it being the PRT files when I tried to use the PRTs created by the old version of Phoenix (24510) in a Krakatoa PRT Birth in PFlow. I kept getting errors that it could not convert uint64 to int32 for IDs (even if I tried to do it with a Magma modifier). So I guess the older version was writing the PRTs wrong (at least wrong for these uses, I don't know if the spec supports uint64).

i suppose the size channel is missing in these old files, and if you increase the size multiplier they will render too.

That was my first thought. I tried a size of 20 and still got nothing. Maybe I needed to go higher still.

Good to know the new version works.

Indeed, the old prt export was wrong - we fixed it a couple of weeks ago.
