  • Fluid Artifacts - Maya Render Gizmo Issues/Troubles

OK, I've been fighting with this sim for a few days now. I have watched and rewatched the beer tutorial a number of times to confirm the process.

I am attempting to create a sort of boiling liquid look. I am using the Phoenix Mapper and VRay Distance Tex technique to initial fill the beaker. Then I use a baked animation of rising spheres to generate the boiling.

The artifacts at the bottom are the problem. These spots and the ridges just shouldn't be there.

The fluid mesh is well inside the beaker geometry:

My assumption was that if the fluid is inside the geo it would be subtracted by the render gizmo? While that appears to be happening to some extent, we're getting some wild and undesirable artifacts.

If you'd like me to leave the Maya scene, just tell me where to host it and I'll link to it.

    Hey,

All your settings look correct - the only thing that could cause an issue would be inverted normals or holes on the glass geometry.

Also, would it be possible to check the Build ID in the About dialogue in the Phoenix menu? If you don't have have nightly access, please send a mail to Support and ask for 2.2 nightly build permissions.

    Cheers!

Our current version is 2.25.01 Nightly, Build ID: 1604306748

If the version is the problem, I'll have to wait for an administrator to collect and install latest version.

Yup, it's better to have the latest version with all the latest fixes. I could not reproduce the issue with the beer sample that comes with the Phoenix install (it's located in Documents/Phoenix FD/samples maya). In case it would be harder to update the build, you could also send the scene over to Support and we'll have a look if it's an issue specific to this particular scene. Whichever suits you best

It will be a few days before I can get the latest nightly installed. I'd like to see if there's an alternative technique for removing the inscribed cells besides Solid Geo & Render Gizmo; ie: Mesh and a Boolean operation? Can you prescribe another method/approach?

Currently, I'm attempting to export the simulated mesh out as alembic. I'm not really sure what's possible here, but crossing my fingers there's more than one way to get the desired result.

          Mesh mode:

Indeed - a boolean operation is what the Gizmo was meant to replace when it was added originally, but back then Phoenix did not have mesh mode rendering. Basically, you need to cut away all the liquid that enters the walls of the glass.
