Phoenix 3.0 for Maya is just around the corner. Does anyone know if 2.0 license holders will get access to 3.0 off the bat or will there be upgrade costs?

Upgrade costs are standard practice for Vray, but considering the only way to get Phoenix for newer versions of Maya was via nightlies which I felt a bit unorthodox, I figured I'd ask if upgrade costs would be the case or not.

Can any devs here fill me in? If there is an upgrade fee how much are we talking? Thanks much.

Its a whole version change, I am pretty sure it will be an upgrade cost

      Hey,

Especially for this release, the upgrade for owners of 2 to 3 would either be at a very low price, or a completely free upgrade. There will be an official announcement soon.

      Cheers!

That's great news. BTW I know you guys were aiming for the mid of September but any specific date? Also I was interested in knowing how much different from nightlybuilds it will be. I use PHX for Max with the last available nightly.

          Thanks

            Hey,

It will be official pretty soon As for differences with the nightlies - on paper there is just one new thing - the Discharge Modifiers got ported from Maya to the PHXSources in 3ds max. However, there is bunch of tweaks and fixes and the Phoenix toolbar is finally finished with some of the most used setups made as presets.

There will also be separate simulation licenses for use in 3dsmaxcmd.exe/backburner/deadline without a GUI.

            Cheers!

That's awesome I'm so excited about the Toolbar, will it be possible to customize a setup and add it to the toolbar? that will be great. I didn't get the chance to work on the Maya version so I don't know what the discharge modifiers do but I'm sure if you guys took the time to add it to Max version then it's a good new feature. So excited can't wait to see how people who didn't have access to nightly will react to the new FLIP solver for liquid, I bet they are going to flip

                Hey,

So in the nightlies there are options at the top of the Simulation and Rendering panel that allow you to save all sim or rend settings to a file and load them back. The PHXFoam shader also has such option

                Cheers!

                  Svetlin,

What would you speculate the timeline on 3.0 for Maya would be (if you can say)? Are there nightlies already available for it? As a owner of PhoenixFD 2.0 (with access to 2.0 Maya nightlies), will I need to request access to 3.0 nightlies or will that just be automatically added?

                  Thanks much for any information,
                  Clayton

                    Hey,

Well, since 3.0 for max is out, Maya development can finally sped up, but we'd have to do at least a month of polishing and fixing. Nightlies will not be automatically transferred though - they are in a different location with no access right now, and they use the new licenses too, so we'll make them visible again once the Maya version is out. We are thinking about automatic nightly access being give out to customers, but it has to be tried and tied to upgrades as well, so not sure if it will be working by the time Maya is out.

                    Cheers!
