  • How do you render a whitewater pass with Vray?

    Hey guys,

We finished a large liquid sim (ocean) in 3ds Max and we'd like to know how to render out a "whitewater" pass with Vray? Ideally we'd like it to look as close to the beach example in the Phoenix FD 3 release video on Youtube.

    https://youtu.be/QvBO8ZNXAsI?t=45s

We are rendering foam as bubbles (although this can be changed if needed). This whitewater pass hopefully includes the mist, foam and PFoam Texture that is used on the waves. We would like to be able to do this without the need to re-render the scene with modified materials.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Hello,

You can render VRayAtmosphere pass. Though this will include only the Foam, splashes and mist - the FoamTexture won't be included.

Actually all the other geometry comes through in this render element as opaque in the alpha so this effectively makes this pass un-usable because the composite mode needed for the foam/splashes is required to be alpha blended (not Add or something similar). Is this something that is going to be fixed?

Rendering the image as a multichannel exr and then shuffling out the Atmospherics pass should do the job.
