  • Retime issues

Afternoon! Back to that age old problem with re-timing smoke sims.

For example, I am using the large scale smoke preset. Sim the base with velocity exported. Chose re-time based on slow down and set the new play speed in the input panel. Begin resim... all detail will dissipate away as explained in docs. Whats the best way to try keep a similar result? The preset is already set to Multipass. Should I crank up the AMP resolution or something.

Wish it was a bit more like fume's retime, generally don't lose the look (details) of the base sim unless retiming under 1 or so. Not used fume in a long time now though :P

It's just a static scene, no moving parts etc.

Here is the 'slow down' version on the left and the one on the right just has the playspeed set to the same value of 0.25.

I did totally forget about the plain force I had in there, excluded from the resim and the detail is better (still dissipating a fair bit in a few areas, well more like a diffusion effect). Maybe a case of playing with the smoke opacity afterwards to try get the same look as the base.

      Hey,

Do you really need the Slow Down method though? It's more dissipative and with play speed of 0.25, this is already on the edge. I'd suggest the Slow Down method only if you have fire - otherwise for smoke only, the General Purpose method would not lose any detail and you should only watch out for motion jittering.

      Cheers!

Yea thats the problem, its not much use if it jitters. Will it jitter only if the play speed is animated so if it is a constant retime of 0.25 it wouldnt jitter? Anyway I shall quickly run it rhough the general purpose and find out :P

        Thanks
