  • What cool stuff could I do with the PRT loader?

    Hi there,

I got some free time for R&D and I?d like to experiment with some prt sequence recorded via Brekel and the Kinect.

    So far I figured out:

    1. I can render the point cloud via Phoenix PRT reader and the particle shader. It only renders one color though and not the prt colors I can see in the viewport. As far as I know this was planned but it probably didn?t get implemented yet?
    2. I can load the particles via the krakatoa loader in Pflow and use that to do all sorts of stuff in Pflow then. Can?t get the color to work there either so far.

Other questions I?m having right now:

    1. Could I use the PRT reader directly as a source for a liquid or smoke sim? Or would I have to go the detour via Pflow and Krakatoa loader?
    2. Since I can also alembic geo via the Brekel tool, might it be a better idea to just use that as a source for Phoenix?

    Hello,

For the color coming from prt - we still need to implement it, it's not done yet.

As for using the prt-s as a source - yes, there should be no problem using them just like every other particle system. Just plug them in the source and it should work.

      Hey,

      Just a few notes:
      - the PRT reader still can NOT be plugged into a source, we still need to implement this.
      - We implemented a color from a texture slot in the Particle Shader, so finally you can have particles of different colors. However, I don't think there is a texture that samples the color from PRT particles so maybe we need to implement such a texture ourselves.

A V-Ray proxy would be able to load abc particles and color them using a VRayParticleTex, but the proxy does not expose these as as standard particle system so you can't plug into a source neither... I hope we can get to implementing this stuff soon

Ahhhh, sorry, my bad - yes, you can use the Phoenix PRT Reader in a source, but you can't (yet) use a Krakatoa PRT Loader or a Krakatoa particle system directly in a source.
