  • Rendering grids as voxels?

    Hi,

is there any built in way of rendering PhoenixFD grids as voxels directly (think lego movie explosions)?

I can see how to render explosions as a mesh, and Frost and Rayfire have options for doing it (but that's extra processing going on)

Seems like it might be a nice option to have directly, especially if you could control voxel size through channels.

    Thanks,

    Steve

      Hi,

thanks - but isn't that just for volumetrics rather than if you want it as a mesh - also you're stuck with the simulation grid resolution?

For example using the Rayfire route, you can pick the PhoenixFD mesh source and adjust the resolution of the grid independently (but you can't control the individual voxel size.

Indeed, I don't think there is much you can do right now in that regard - especially if you want to render instanced meshes with materials per each voxel or even on a different resolution. Maybe it would help if there was a tool that would convert the voxels into particles, allowing for grid downsampling.
