Yesss, this is an issue we know about, but gotta find a way to fix it. The displacement should indeed hide it.

    Cheers!

      Hey,
I have got access to the nightlies yesterday, so I just installed and resimulated without changing anything else. I have not rendered the animation yet, but looking at a still frame shows: The horizon is black again. Maybe this is a problem in the current build (I have used 3.11.01 Nightly, Build ID: 2018071628391), since I have not changed anything else. Further testing shows that it only becomes black with displacement on. Is there a way around it, should I use the official build or just wait for a new nightly?

      Thanks,
      Bob

        Hello,

The black horizon can be fixed by increasing your Ocean subdivs - mind that this will consume a lot of memory.
In your case I would suggest playing around with the horizon offset, the blend angle and the ground albedo color of the VRaySun in combination with the Water material's Fog color.
These settings will impact how your horizon will look so you need to balance them with the Ocean subdivs value in order to get a result that won't consume all of your memory

Thanks for your suggestions - but are you sure this is intended, no bug and better than the official build? I have played a bit with the values you have mentioned and I do not see any change regarding the darkness of the horizon (see attached pictures). Especially changing the fog I really do not understand at all: There is absolutely no change, no matter what I put in, unless I set the color value to 255, then the change is extreme. There are no inbetweens. How could that be?
The only visible change comes with higher subdivs, but it just makes the black dots smaller, the horizon is still grey - and as you said, it consumes lots of meory and takes much longer to start rendering.
So I guess I am better off with the official build?

          Thanks,
          Bob

            Hey,
Indeed we have found a bug with your scene and I hope we'll have a fix soon that should make things a lot better. I will update the thread when we have something.

            Thank you,
