Doing loads of cloud stuff with phoenix at the minute and really enjoying it, great to hear there's more speedups on the way! Instancing of vdbs is going to be the jumping in point for us rendering it in max, especially things like vdb's in conjunction with the scatterer. Great that you guys are doing so much work on the houdini side and all of the learnings and features will fold back into the other versions of vray!

Hey,
Instancing of volume simulators for preview and rendering is implemented in the Phoenix nightlies for a month or so now (before that only mesh mode worked) It will also be in the V-Ray VolumeGrid for the next V-Ray Next release - not sure if it's in the stable nightlies right now tough.
Support by the V-Ray Instancer for VolumeGrids and Phoenix is just coming in the V-Ray nightlies right now too
We are working on making the Phoenix Light Cache compatible with the V-Ray Light Select render element because currently it's rendering buckets - it won't make any speed difference though.
Cheers!Svetlin Nikolov, Ex Phoenix team lead
