  • Bathroom water simulations

    Hi there!

I just started using Phoenix FD and am working on some water simulations for a bathroom.
I ran into some obstacles, which probably are pretty basic. I want to apologize in advance, and would appreciate every hint pointing me in the right direction

    Overhead shower:
The water is being emitted from a lot of tiny circles. It looks pretty much like I want it to, the only problem is, that the drops are emitted in the same intervals.
This is apparent when you look at the water from the side (like in the screenshot) - the drops are too regularly on the same level and have gaps which are exactly the same size. Is there a way to randomize this?

    Faucet:
I'm using a faucet where the outlet of the water is not pointing straight down. This means, that the water is coming out at a specific angle, and therefore pretty fast.
The water is being emitted from a couple hexagons.
I first tried to increase the outgoing velocity of the emitter - but this causes the flow to spread out when it gets too fast. That's why I introduced the follow path helper to make the flow go exactly where I want it to (along a spline).
What I can't get right yet, is the look of the flow/stream and the splash where it hits the sink. Either the flow looks right - then the splash is not happening - or the other way round.

Any ideas for the right settings?

This is how it should look like in the end:

Thank you in advance for any help!

    Hello,

Can you attach the screenshots again, because they are not showing?

Showing your settings for the simulator will help as well.

    Thank you,

      Hi Georgi

Thanks for your reply. I added the screenshots once again.
I'll try to post the settings by tomorrow!

      Best wishes

        Hey,

A couple of suggestions - use the Noise option on the source to add some randomness: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...uidSrc-General

... and try increasing the Steps Per Frame in order to get a smoother flow at high speed - this is the physically correct way to get a good flow when it starts breaking up: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...:StepsPerFrame

          Hi Svetlin

Thanks for pointing out the noise option. In the case of the shower, it did exactly what I wanted!

With the faucet, I'm not quite where I want to be.
This is how it looks like right now:

I want to get a more linear stream (you can notice linear patterns on the flow, in the direction of the waterflow), and kind of a splash when it hits the sink, like in this image:

I also attached my current settings. I'm rendering with Corona, so foam isn't really an option yet.

          Thanks for taking a look!

Hmm, wouldn't a bit of motion blur help get that effect?

            Cheers!

You're right, the flow is starting to look better.
The thing is now, that the splash looks weird because of the long shutter time. Needs some more tweaking... Click image for larger version Name:	6.JPG Views:	2 Size:	30.7 KB ID:	1011803

Do you use Path Follow for the stream? Because this is a normal flow which can be simulated w/o any helpers.
