If you do stupid things and leave gpu preview on while you do wavelet upres, you might crash your graphics card :D

  • If you do stupid things and leave gpu preview on while you do wavelet upres, you might crash your graphics card :D

    Heya Folks,

Just as a thing, I was showing someone the gpu preview of a sim with no detail reduction and didn't turn it off before running a wavelet upres on an 800 x 400 x 400 voxel cloud sim. Needless to say the detail of the upres flooded my graphics card memory and I had an nvidia driver crash that took down any application that uses an overlay / buffer.

This post is a public reminder to myself not to do that

    Hello,

Thanks for reporting that. We'll see if we can do something about it.

Unfortunately there is no auto-reduction for the gpu preview like there is for the voxel and particle preview and I can't currently think of a way we could do it...

I get you - would it be possible that when you turn on resimulation it turns off gpu by default? I'll remember most of the time in future but I bet I'll miss it once or twice

Interesting idea, maybe it could actually reduce the preview detail proportionally to the resim amplification...

          Thanks!
