  • Liquid grid velocity affects liquid particles within grid even though "Motion Inheritance" is off.

Hello, it might be me being stupid, but as far as I understand the "Motion Inheritance" checkbox/slider, I'd assume that the motion of the grid either does or does not affect the liquid particles inside of the grid.

Now I have this scene where an off road car is driving along a river bed that has water in it, the car covers a pretty long distance, so I'd like the liquid grid to cover just an area
around the car and not the entire distance that the car drives. (Just like in the "Ship in the ocean" example) from the docs pages.
The problem is that the car has obstacles in it's way. The liquid particles are now picking up the velocity from the moving grid and create a splash at these
obstacles even though "Motion Inheritance" is off.

I've simplified this scene to the bare minimum in order to debug, here is a playblast:

What I would want is: The Car should drive through water and create splashes, the grid should move with the car in order to cover just the area around the car.
The water should not create splashes at those obstacles, it should be as if they "sit" in the water. Yet I don't want to turn "solid object" off because they should interact with the water,
the water should just not inherit grid motion.

I'm now sure that the "Motion Inheritance" slider is dedicated towards "jammed container walls".

Is there any way to achieve what I want? I simply don't want the water to look like it's "flowing" from the grid motion.
Btw. I've tried using "Initial Fill Up" and a Liquid source with Volume Brush, there was no behavior difference

Here is the scene if you want to test around (max 2019):

    Thank you

Turns out you are correct - this is indeed not supported at the moment. I've added this as a feature request and will ping you as soon as any progress is made.
For the time being a single grid that covers the object's path is probably your best bet.

    Best regards!
