      Just realised something.. wetmaps on a cascading shot when the same geo cross both grids.. can have two materials assigned to a mesh - so the phoenix text picks up the wetmap from both?!

        Ah, negative - the particle texture just outputs a black and white map, which can be used as a mask for blending between two materials, so if you have more than just a single pair of wet/dry materials, you can have one blend material per each pair, and just one particle texture plugged as a mask in each blend mtl. This should apply even if you have just a single simulator, but with many different materials in it as well.
