  • Transparency of Fluid Smoke in Viewport

I was wondering if there were any workarounds for viewing my fluids and smokes in my Maya 2016 viewport 2.0. I've been getting strange layering and almost a "culled" look where I can see the fluid through the geometry that is in front of it.
Its making it a challenge to do simple playblasts to show progress. Most of the time I have to just end up rendering the smoke to get a good feel for where its going to be in front or behind objects.

Yes indeed, the GPU preview does not sort with the rest of the scene geometries. You can workaround it by disabling the GPU Shade Preview and by using the other previews or by hiding the geometry intersecting the simulator...
